# POSTMORTEM — {{venture name}} > One file per killed venture, in `POSTMORTEMS/`. Mandatory before the sunset is complete — a venture is not dead until its postmortem is written. The audience is a successor deciding whether to try something similar. ## The registration Quote the original kill-criteria block from DECISIONS.md verbatim, including the decision number: ``` VENTURE: … LAUNCH: … TARGET METRIC: … THRESHOLD: … DEADLINE: … ``` ## The outcome - Final metric value vs. threshold: {{numbers}} - Total spent: {{amount}} (ledger refs) - Total collected: {{amount}} - Human minutes consumed (from INTERVENTIONS.md): {{n}} ## What the bet actually was {{One paragraph. Not what the launch decision said — what, with hindsight, you were really betting on. These differ more often than is comfortable.}} ## Why it died {{The honest causal story. Distinguish: the thesis was wrong · the execution was wrong · the market moved · we never reached the test. Only one of these is usually true.}} ## What was right {{Even dead ventures validate things: a channel that converted, a tool that worked, a price point that didn't scare anyone. List what a successor should salvage.}} ## What would have to be different to try again {{The specific conditions — not "more time and money." If nothing would make it work, say so.}} ## Kill-criteria review {{Did the pre-registered criteria fire correctly? Too early, too late, wrong metric? This feedback loop is how the §7 template gets better.}}
